Nicer Alternative To Squier Bronco Bass?

Have you tried the Gretsch G2220 Jet Jr.? I love the sound and it feels right in my hands.Many on forum agree.I'm also partial to my Epiphone EB-0 SG style bass.Very nice short scale comfort at under $250 last I checked.If it's Mudbucker doesn't deliver enough mid-highs you could buy say an Entwistle J pickup and with installation would still clock in at well under $400.

I’m late to the show, but wanted to add my 2¢. I’ve been playing bass for about 17 years and recently decided to try out a short scale. Bought a cheap bronco off Facebook and fell in love. Prior to this I played a mia jazz as my go to and have dabbled with all full scale basses, so my ss knowledge is limited. That said. The bronco is so fast to play and with some light fret edge work the neck is pristine by my opinion.
After playing it for a few days I then proceeded to mod it to heck and now have my own one of a kind “Buzzaxe Bronco”.
It went from this awesome red to an awesomer amateur burst. Added a new L-series mfd pickup from g&l along with new pots, switch and wiring. Reshaped the head for weight savings and fashion, and the body for better contour and playability and I’m golden. Total cost to mod was about $250.
My hot take, mod the bronco.
