Hey! After a long time thinking about this, I pulled the plug and made my first step to become a TROMBONE player (without relegating my beloved bass, of course):

Basically, I didn't want to spend much money on a decent trombone, neither pay cheap for a piece of junk. But I found about the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], which definitely is the best option for someone who wants to get into this beautiful instrument but wants the best in a budget. Since most reviews say that the included plastic mouthpiece is essentially crap, I also bought a brass 6 1/2 AL mouthpiece:

And well, I won't become the next Christian Lindberg for sure, but I feel very enthusiastic about studying this instrument the most seriously I can (my busy schedule allowing). I'm a complete newbie at playing trombone (my swollen jugular vein on the second picture is proof enough of my absolute lack of technique), but I know a lot about this instrument in theory and I think it's a valuable strength for a starter. If I ever can make some decent noises with the trombone, one of the first things I'll do will be recording and posting to YouTube a multi-screen video playing this (four trombones plus bass, of course).

Weird. I started out on trombone back in 5th grade. I had no idea they made plastic 'bones.

Those bones are mostly used for marching bands. They're light, sound decent and are tough.

They also don't get freezing cold when you're playing outside in the winter (used play in high school marching band, in Oregon).

Nothing is worse than playing a frozen trombone all night.....

That's an amazing price. I've got my student trombone still, never play it anymore (pick it up a couple times a year and honk on it). I wish they would've had completely plastic tubas when I was in marching band, in Michigan, late November (that's effin' cold).

That's pretty sweet dude I remember my brother brought home his from school and I have it a shot, and I'm pretty sure my face got a lot redder than yours! Takes a lot of strength to blow a trombone.. My fav brass instrument by far... Good luck!

They make fiberglass ones. I believe that they've been around for a long time too. They still have a lot of brass tubes, though.

Nice! I've known several trombone players take up bass, but not the other way around. have fun!

Fact. Except I played the euphonium. Sometimes it got so cold I'd resort to wrapping those handwarmers around the mouthpiece, lest I re-enact A Christmas Story

Congrats on joining the fold. I own a Getzen 725 and I love the thing. Good thinking on getting a proper mouthpiece as well; I wouldn't trust a plastic one any day of the week!

What's the bore size? 500?

it's great for getting into playing but this is the typical american mindset: when it doesn't work, just throw it out and get a new one. Good luck when that slide gets bent

Yes. And bell size is 8.25". The instrument weighs 800 grams only.

Conn 88s are good. I played one in High School (hey, the school owned it) because I needed a bigger bore instrument, though it was a closed wrap horn instead of an open wrap.

Personally I think they're a much better deal than the Bach trombones I keep seeing. The latter have been falling into some quality control problems, which Conn hasn't. Which is weird because Conn and Selmer (who manufactures the Bach line) are the same company. Go figure.

Just watched the first clip. Color me surprised; yes the brass one has a richer sound but it isn't like the pBone is crap. I was half expecting it to sound like a vuvuzela at first!

Alvaro, how's the shape of yours after 7 months?

I don't play any brass or winds (except some basic soprano/alto/tenor recorder) so this is my first horn. I did buy a metal mouthpiece, too (Bach 12C).
