Nitro questions

Calling all people with knowledge on finishing with nitro:
I am planning re-finishing my Epi T-bird with some metallic sherwood green nitro. I already have the body stripped to the wood.

My questions are:

1. Are you just able to spray over an oil finish or will I need to sand it out? (I started finishing the back with linseed oil but changed my mind)

2. If the answer to 1 is no are there any ways of easily/quickly getting rid of an oil finish?

3. This may seem a stupid question but do you need to use a primer or will it look fine without?

4. Do you need to use a clear coat over a colour coat?

I've sprayed nitro over polymerized linseed oil with no problems before. Don't know if I'd try it over raw linseed oil, but oil like tru-oil can be sprayed with nitro IME.

It's boiled linseed oil so according to the link it is polymerised.

You can spray nitro over an cured oil finish, but I would suggest scuff sanding the surface. I say this to get better adhesion between the finishes. I would also spray 2 coats of a nitro sanding sealer, let dry, level sand with 320. Repeat, this time level sand with 400. Spray a nitro primer to cover evenly.

Yes, you will need clear coats to bury the metallic flakes and for protection. Spray your metallic color coats to get color even from around 10-12 inches, first across then up/down patterns. Once the color coats are dry, then start burying the metallic with 4-5 misting coats then wetter coats until you have 2 sprays cans. Use the Rules of Three for the clear coats.
