New Mini Bass Day ... lately the fingers on my left hand have been clamping a little ... decided I'd give the sub-short-scale world a try.
I found the Form Factor Audio Wombik on Reverb and actually bought a bass new for once. It's the miniature cousin of their flagship Wombat, just 27" in scale. The Ulyate pickups are hot hot hot but not boomy; the tone is bright and defined. The series/parallel switch adds a LOT of growl when needed. It sounds great through my Phil Jones combo and Sadowsky preamp pedal. My daughter had a Mikro when she briefly took up bass, and this is even smaller, but it feels infinitely more solid and well made, and sounds it too. Frets feel really rounded and consistent all the way down the neck. It usually comes with custom Labella flats, but I had the good folk at Amp Shop Bass Exchange put rounds on it before shipping. Not sure what they put on there or how they fit them on, but the tension is perfect. Anyone considering exploring the murky world below 30", this feels and sounds like a Fender Jazz shrunk down 25%.
