New Music Room Day!
So, a few years post-divorce for me, I finally managed to stuff enough money away to remodel my house (and sage the house while I'm at it). Well, I should say, I have to re-pipe my house, so i'm remodeling it while it is destroyed.
I have a couple of extra rooms, so moved my music room from my office into its own area! I'm sick of choosing paint colors, so I used the gray I selected for the living room and master for the top of the music room. I wanted to add some color, but couldn't decide. My son is in a purple phase, so we went to Sherwin Williams, and I found a shade I could live with. I'm calling it 'Mellow Hendrix Purple'.
Now, what to do about separating the colors. Well, a chair rail is the best bet, but we can't have anything boring in the music room...
(I should pause here and say that this project was a way bigger PITA than I could have ever imagined).
Starters. I'm using the 5" floor moulding, so I tested some for the chair rail. Looks good.
Home Depot, strap 6 - 16' (yes, 16 foot) pieces on the top of my little subaru crosstrek. Thank goodness for the ski racks! I took the back roads home so I didn't get pulled over.
Cut them to length and bevel the ends (I'm no woodworker, so this was harder than it sounds).
Tape them off, leaving little spaces between the tape. Then, carefully measure and mark off sections to be trimmed.
Carefully knife out the cuts. Can you see where this is going?
all of them done
now paint the spaces in between
peel the tape!
and viola!
The carpet is getting changed to a gray, and most of the guitars and basses will be hung on the wall. I've set up a little recording station to my right, and to my left is another wall of guitars.
I bought some really great original rock art (hendrix, prince, eVh), and have considered even using some old vinyl covers for the walls.
I'm pretty stoked how it turned out. I know it's just a room, but believe me, it feels good to have this room washed clean!
Thanks for looking!
