No. 5 - Fifth scratch build, first 5 string

Well, it's "finished"...

I still need to work on the setup and I need a string tree of some sort, but I will be taking my time getting those items sorted. But here are the finished pics! Please excuse the terrible pictures...

For any who are curious, I will try to post updates as I work on the set-up.

That turned out amazing! I love the brooding color scheme, and the limba did not disappoint. So much character around the perimeter where most basses have a boring layer in the middle.

What an insane beast! Chapeau, both on the workmanship as well as on the design!

Regarding the frets I don't quite get why you use glue at all? I'm several leagues below you but for me it always worked well without. This also makes the inevitably defret in the future easier.

Regarding gluing frets; only because I have heard/been told its a good thing to do and the reasons for doing it seem to make sense. I'm still new to this and have no direct evidence to tell me glue is or is not needed.

If you use a saw that matches the width of the tang those small "teeth" in the tang usually hold. Especially in hard wood.
You could go for a minimally thinner saw if you have softer wood.

And if an occasional fret doesn't hold nicely you could bend it to a slightly smaller radius than the fretboard and use a drop of glue in the middle.

I usually go without glue for the very problem you mentioned: a small part of it usually ends up on the fretboard.

Looks really nice. I like the faceted edges, that's kind of a unique look. That fretboard is amazing. looks quite a bit darker that I expected based on the earlier pics.
