No budget recording w DSLR +

This may be a bit out of place here. I have a Canon 77D, comica pro mic, MacBook Pro and a bass and a 210 cab. Spare bedroom. I’m just looking for tips on best location / settings for setting the camera/mic up the best I can. Any ideas on approach?

No funds on the near horizon. Mainly hoping to capture good ideas and opportunities for improvement. It would be nice if it sounded decent. Filming it might provide useful insight.

An instant thought is that you are going to want to know you can switch automatic gain/level off on the mic input if you are recording music. There is probably a setting in the camera for that.

You can use your interface to record the audio in high quality and later sync it with the video using the free DaVinci software on your MacBook. Just let the mic record the audio, too, to make it easier to sync (DaVinci can compare wave-forms) later. These 50,- directional mics aren't the best for music and mic-preamps even on decent and expensive cameras leave a lot to be desired.
