No, I don't want to enable push notifications

I eventually got a never ask again button. Wonder if there is a setting for it somewhere in the profile preferences (have not checked, but makes sense to have it there if there is not one already).
The "Never Ask Again" button only lasts till you log out, if you are following standard security best practices and delete cookies upon browser exit. I have been told this is standard for the forum software, and will not be changed. If you want the "Never Ask Again" to be persistent you'll have to enable retention of cookies after exiting your browser.
There was also mention of deleting "third party cookies" but my browser does not offer me this option, it's all cookies or none, whether done manually or automatically. I'm certainly not going to go to my complete list of cookies and pick and choose. My browsers have all been set "delete all cookies upon exit" for years, as per standard security recommendations.

All or almost all browsers have settings to prohibit notifications (aka "push notifications") from websites.
The exact way to do it depends on your browser. Go into the browser's Settings or Preferences menu and look for a section that allows you to define whether websites are allowed to access your microphone, camera, downloads, etc... For example in Firefox the setting is in "Privacy & Security" -> "Permissions" -> "Notifications".
Some browsers' preferences/settings have a search function. Enter "notifications" and it should pop up immediately.
Usually the default setting is "Ask", meaning you get a popup alerting you about push notifications. If you don't want any website anywhere to push notifications at your browser, forever, switch it to "Don't Allow". If you don't see any explicit setting, there should be at least a checkbox with a label that more or less means "Don't Allow". If you only want to block talkbass's notifications, you can define a rule specific for this website -- every browser does this differently so I won't try to explain that, but if you can't figure it out (it's not always obvious) there should be help online.
Note this setting is per-browser. If you browse talkbass on both your work computer and your phone, you have to set the preference on both browsers.

Fair enough, but if your options are to wait for a change that might never happen or do something yourself that solves the problem, you may as well do something yourself.
