no more carpeted cabs?

Ive noticed I don't see any new cabs with carpeted exteriors. I thing they are tougher than the vinyle covering and I like the look better

Not a fan of rat fur. Retains foul odors and looks bad quickly. I've even had one cab in recovery.

We did away with smoking in bars almost twenty years ago!

There are different grades of "rat fur", the good stuff (trade name "Ozite") is a high quality product and is pretty costly too. While it's a very durable covering, it does tend to attract cats, cat hair, and odors if playing rank dive clubs.

I’m just not a fan of carpet, be it on my amps or my floor. Tolex is nice, been considering the spray on truck bed stuff for both the Eden EX112 and the 440Live Aguilar GS112 clone.

No, the carpet does not get torn on your average bang. The coating does.

The good Rat fur is definitely more durable than vinyl but it never looks as good. I have some old Avatar Cabs with rat fur that still look new after 100's of gigs. I use a lint roller to clean them and it works like a charm.
But their still ugly.

I've had both. Yeah, rat fur tends to be a little tougher. But the fur and odor retaining issues are more of an issue. If you get any kind of covers for your cabs, and use reasonable care with them, they should last decades looking good.

What odors? You can't smoke inside anymore. Only thing I would be worried about is cat pee.

I myself am grateful for the demise of the fuzzy stuff. I’d much rather use a cover for transport and not have that stuff soaking up the atmosphere.

Chicken grease. Played a bar known for their wings and the kitchen exhaust fan broke down. That cab stunk so bad an intervention was necessary and recovery was the only solution.
