My beginner bass broke a couple days ago, I was trying to tune it, and got no signal, I didn't worry about it coz I was just noodling around at home without an amp and it wasn't really out of tune, but today after changing the strings it still wouldn't tune, tried a different tuner, same thing. Then I tried it with an amp, didn't work. I checked all the solders, and they're intact. I've basically disassembled the whole thing apart from the bridge, tuner, strap buttons and neck joint. Luckily I just got a new bass last week, so i'll have one to play in church on Sunday, but I still really wanna fix it, and I just installed flats that won't fit on my Fender, coz they're already cut for a MM, they fit on the Ibanez SDGR style headstock though and I really wanna hear how they sound before I fork out $70. Thanks for your help in advance.

I thought the output jack was broken or the tuner was busted, but it turned out it wasn't picking up a signal because I had the freakin volume and tone knobs down all the way! :scowl:
And i've checked through different amps and with different leads, along with everything else i've already mentioned. Am I missing anything?
from my experience when I didn't a signal I missed a ground connection somewhere. or one of the pot lugs was touching the side of the cavity. or the output jack lugs rotated and touched each other.
how come it says Fender P Bass Active Deluxe Special in your sig then ? I'd say - "check the battery" lol 
Passive P bass copy, eh? You need to get an ohmeter somewhere, or even just one of those automotive light out thingys - it's basically just a flashlight with test leads on both ends. Take the pickup out of the circuit and see if it reads 0 Ωs, or lights up. My guess is it's open, broken, no continuity.
The Fender is my new bass (as mentioned in OP) and Fenders don't have SDGR style headstocks. I'm embarrased to put that old bass in my signature. You wanna know the brand? Casino. Google it, one kind of bass will come up and that's a P/J. Mines a Burgundy high-gloss P copy will cut down lower horn and thinned out top horn. No pickguard either. (All stock from the factory, i didn't thin the horns or anything.) My mum bought it for me from a local shop when we didn't know anything about basses. (She bought it without me.)
Tried heaps as previously mentioned. Leaving to the store I purchased it from right now.
