This kind of showboating doesn't impress me either. I agree with the employee.

And you're kinda proving my point in a left hand turn kinda way.
I wasn't trying to impress anyone. Or cared to. Or care if I did. But this guy- who wasn't an employee, just decided to pop off. And yeah, maybe I'm not having the best days this week, so be it.
Nofrets5 is a friend of mine and a seriously bad-ass frestless player. No BS. Scary killer tone and player.
I couldn't play like he does. But I wouldn't walk up to him and tell him like a jerk that I could but choose not to. And if I did, then yeah, there is room for him to respond how he feels fit.
And if him, or anyone else feels the need to vent on here and in the process qualify who they are, and more or less it's true to their statements, that's not an ego. It the truth.

While I'm far far from a chops laden monster who can blow over Giant Steps and re-harmonize Good Bye PorkPie Hat into a 200bpm bop tune, I can play and been lucky enough to work a lot because of it.
Do I have some chops? I'd like to think so. YMMV as to if you dig them or not. But I get calls for gigs.

I was expecting a LOT more after the "I'm so much better than you" rant...I wasn't expecting such a complete LACK of groove...completely generic and faceless tone-wise and playing-wise. Could have been programmed keyboard bass.

I think that the comment posted on that Youtube video from 2 years ago sums it up best:

"No soul. Just plain awful. Why would this video exist?"

Maybe that kid at Guitar Center was on to something...

Wow....

I just looked at it and think he did great.

I noticed he slagged off Rickenbacker tone in his original post as well...funny thing, however, is that if he had been playing a Rick in that "Mr. Big Stuff" clip he would have had an actual notable identifiable tone instead of that generic unnoticeable tone that no one pays attention to nowadays...

Nice try.
And that's why I get work.
I sound generic. I fit in and don't attract attention on the gig. Hmm....like you're supposed to do.
So thanks!

And please read my post again.....Rick through a Crate through a Big Muffled down stairs in a gym.......

Haha, the OP reminds me of a good friend of mine who plays drums.

Somewhere through the 10+ years of playing he went from playing hardcore/punk breakdowns and blastbeats to being a pretty decent drummer, DECENT.

The annoying part about him now is since he's such an "accomplished" drummer, all he talks about and plays anymore is "the groove", and tries to make his playing about as complicated as splitting an atom.

I understand though, a time and a place for everything, including a groove.

Lmao! I say next time the OP is showering the aisles of Guitar Center with his/her musical gifts and some whipper snapper dares make an unsolicited comment, call him over, sit him on your knee, ask him if hes been a good little boy, and ask him what he wants for Christmas. I'd love to find sliding harmonics in my stocking this x mas.

ok your awesome.

and dont let the purdy rock star emo kids in tight jeans upset you.

they are cuter than you.....so what! get over it...smoke a blunt loose some weight watch a movie....jump in a cactus garden

study the Derek Smalls Jazz work out video...something....gee wiss
over it now

I'm just OK but I don't make comments like that. Not because of backing anything up or whatever, just because it's plain rude.

I can find something in just about anybody's playing that I can appreciate.
