noise after pup install..

Noob question i may already have answered myself but looking for input....just installed cts 250k pots for tone and volume with an orange drop. 047 cap. Replaced pup with spb 1, everything works....but im getting noise when my hand is off the strings....noise stops when my hand is on the strings or on the bridge....would this be a grounding issue?

Also, what should i use to clean up the flux?

I suspect your pickups aren't humcancelling pickups. You can roll back the J pick up and it should help. Shielding is always a good thing. If you touch the bridge and it stops humming, then it's properly grounded properly. Mine does the same thing. I just turned on my noise filter, but not sure if you have one available. Good luck.

Its just a single spb-1 p pickup, and i don't have a noise filter...was looking at them, many tbers recommended shielding to solve the problem and luckily my local guitar shop had copper tape in stock....so now to cover the pickup cavity with it, solder loose ends, and ground a wire from the copper tape to the back of my volume pot....hoping itll resolve this issue....the bass is worthless, but the pick up and pots brought this blast from the past back from the dead....besides, if i ever get an actual p bass, i will always have the spb-1 available to swap out..really had nothing to lose on this project

Cant believe i didnt notice this....but the trb50 im modding has a reverse p configuration...essentially the opposite of how the fender p bass config is......would that have any effect on the buzzing im getting?? Im still new and these basses arent exactly flying around the internet, so i dont have much reference

Most of my basses do the same thing. A little buzz that goes away when you touch the strings. The tone pot rolls off the buzz so you don't hear it, but it is still there. BTW - I find that most of my buzz is caused by my computer - when I move away from it the buzz goes away.

The reverse P configuration has nothing to do with it. Why it started with your new pup - hard to say. Maybe they have more high end sensitivity than your old pup.

It is not necessary to clean off solder flux. it is inert when it is not melted.

Its a pretty noticable buzz though, which bugs me....gonna try shielding to minimize the noise....ill try and take pictures before shielding to show what has been done....my soldering can be seen improving throughout the terminals...all solder joints are good solders as i have tested them...wish i had another bass to mess with as im almost done with this one
