Noise from Genz Benz Shuttle Max 9.2

Hey everyone. I really don't want to buy a new head so hoping there's a fix here. Forgive my ignorance in advance...

I've purchased this head used when my Mark Bass Little Mark 800 crapped out.

I have nothing plugged in to the Head with the mute on and it is making a hissing sound. Turning off any trouble boost definitely helps with the noise, but it's still there. Turning the tweeter level control down on the cabs all the way helps with the high end of the hiss but it's still there. I am using a trip light ISO bar ultra which is not showing a fault, so it is likely not the power source either.

The odd thing is that if I touch the amp it can decrease and increase the hiss. I don't think tapping my head until the noise is low enough is a viable solution...

I got it used to maybe the tube needs replacing but not sure if that is a solution either.

Need some expertise here! I'd very much appreciate it

It could be many things, especially if the amp was purchased used. Sometimes problems like this are caused by previous repair attempts.

It’s very unlikely the tube, I almost never see a bad tube in a ShuttleMax or Shuttle amp.

There are many possible causes, but not something an end user can “fix”. There’s still a factory service program for your amp, message me and I will get you the info.

Just so you'll know: Following the sale of GenzBenz to Fender, in a move almost singular in this business, parts and service support were built into the sale, and full factory service is available and run by our @agedhorse, who's messaged you above. In a lot of cases, these amps are supported as if they were still in production, and there are many posts here in TB where guys picked up a used Streamliner, sent it back, and received an almost better-than-new amp when they got it back.

Should you decide to ship it, be aware it is going to the man who designed it and oversaw the repair process both originally and now. It could not be in better hands.

@J Wilson --- Andy and I do appreciate your comments, but just to be clear this was not "built into any sale" of the former GB company. This continuing service is out of the respect and goodwill that Andy and I both have for those who purchased our GB products over the decades. And since we are both still actively involved in the industry and this community, it was important to us to continue to support these products, as they "live on" in the market place.
While Andy does the heavy-lifting of repairs and support, we both continue to answer product quesitons and direct users in a variety of ways.
Thanks to all the continue the legacy of the GENZ BENZ gear.
Andy and I continue to chuckly that we both continue to compete with ourselves -- seperately, yet together.
Just wanted to clarify.

Our former owner KMC (which was later acquired by Fender) did support us in continuing the service program, in the “greater good interest” of customer service. While they have no active involvement, they did provide considerable assistance at the beginning.

I'm a two-time beneficiary of this great service!
I've sent in a Streamliner 900 (which I regret selling=another one inbound) and more recently a Shuttle 9.0 (an amp WAY ahead of its time).

With intermittent issues, it's always good to work all of the pots, switches and jacks.
LOTS of amp issues are caused by corrosion on contacts, so "exercising" those pots, switches and jacks can often remedy an issue.
But when expert repair is readily available, I wouldn't recommend doing anything more than that.

My Streamliner just had wear & tear - the Shuttle 9.0 had been repaired incorrectly.
The prior hack-job on the Shuttle required parts replacement, which made it a more expensive repair than the Streamliner refub.
Both amps came back performing like new, and @agedhorse had them done and on their way back to me FAST - like 48 hours in-shop.
Compare that with "poke around and figure it out" techs who can have your amp sitting in the repair queue for MONTHS...

Gear issues are a bummer, but if you send your ShuttleMax to @agedhorse it'll be a worry-free companion from now on.

My Shuttlemax arrived from the UK (to NZ) a few days ago. A friend collected it and left it on my doorstep as I'm on vacation. When I get home, I'll have to see if everything is working as it should (otherwise Mr AgedHorse will have a SM 9.2 requiring servicing) and I'm really looking forward to trying out the "Trouble Boost Control". 👌🏽😉

Yes, its a great cab!

Interestingly enough, I had a D800+ running through it and ended up selling it. My Shuttlemax 9.2 and my Streamliner 900+ sounded better IMO.

Would love to try a WD-800, TT-800, 800D or Genzler Kinetix through it. One day......
