noise problems on a squier jazz

So I switched out the crappy, stock, duncan designed pickups on my squier, for some samarian noiseless fender pickups, but the noise problem on the bass is still the same. I checked to make sure the bridge ground was making a good contact and i don't see any other ground wires that i would need to check. The bass makes a fairly loud hum when i have the tone pot set to let all the high frequencies in and it gets gradually softer as i attenuate the highs. The hum is only there when I'm not touching any metal on the bass, so its not that bad unless I'm playing open strings but it's still a problem I would like to try to fix. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've already tried different instrument cables and different amps. Any help would be appreciated.
