Noise Suppressor looping question?

I've always had a question about this, because I run a two channel rig now; one side is dirty with overdrive, the other is clean. Does anyone know how exactly the loop on the Boss NS-2 works? I understand you plug in pedals before, then use the send to loop through the return, but does anyone know if this causes the Input channel to run over the send and return channel?

The idea with the NS-2 is that all your effects go in the loop. The signal (or rather the lack thereof) at the NS-2 input triggers the noise reduction (ie; not the effected signal), but the reduction is applied to the loop. A handy feature if you've got high gain or otherwise noisy pedals - sometimes the noise coming from such pedals can trigger the 'gate' (actually a downward expander) to open even when you're not playing.
