Noisy Programmable SABDDI

I just bought the Sansamp Programmable BDDI and I am having an issue with the noise level. Its not too noticeable at the factory settings but when I adjust the knobs for a different sound it gets very noisy. It sounds almost like an oscillating sound when I turn the bass or drive up. I play an MusicMan Stingray through a Mesa 400+. I love the distortion and overdrive but I can't get past the noise. I'm not sure if this is normal or if I got a bad one from the factory. Or maybe its just the combination of gear I'm using. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

How exactly are you using it with your bass amp? Into the front end or in the loop? The control pots on the Bass Driver Programmable are "digi-pots," and do not pass audio. They send information to the microprocessor which in turn controls the sound of the unit. The signal path is analog but it is digitally controlled. The byproduct of the combination of these two technologies is a "zipper" noise that occurs when the unit is in edit mode. You need to save the preset once you find your tone to avoid this noise. Perhaps this is the noise you were referring to.

The other thing to be aware of is "unity gain." When going into the front end of a conventional bass amp you need to make sure that the output of the Bass Driver is roughly the same level as when you plug in directly with your bass. If you set the output of the Bass Driver too high you will most likely overload the front end of your amp and increase your noise level.

I tried running it through the front of the amp first and then through the effects loop. Preferably I would like to use it on the front end so I could use the bypass and essentially have 4 separate tones to play around with. The noise did occur when I was trying to edit the presets on each bank. I will try to save the presets and see if that works. Thanks for your help.
