Any old cheap Chinese knock offs from Ebay. I have one in a P bass and its good. Cost $30.
While I've no doubts regards a great $30 Chinese split coil bought from eBay I'm not so sure the term "knockoff" fits.

Very few guitar companies wind their own pickups, instead they contract folks like Donlis, G&B or WSC Music. When those factories hit their targets early they don't send the staff home or reset the lines, they just keep going until the end of the shift. 1000 units go in a box marked 'FMIC' and the other 2-300 units get sold to eBay/Ali-Ex traders.

Often the only difference between named and no-name is the shell hot glued on to the bobbin of one has a logo while the other gets a blank shell :-)

Appreciate the info... interesting.
The story is. I broke my SD PU and sent it off to be repaired which took ages. In the meantime figured I'll get a cheap PU to tie me over and ordered one of those cheapies as I mentioned. Up shot is I sold the Duncan and kept the cheapie. Maybe I struck lucky but its got a lot of mid range which suits me fine.

I hear you and agree with your decision wholeheartedly :)

My Peavey Ellefson sig , Zodiac DE, came with QPs as stock. Wasn't too keen as asked another Zodiac player how he coped, Chris told me he'd ditched the QPs for Alan Entwistle pickups. At £40 for a PJ set it was worth following Chris' advice

Alan has been a stalwart of the UK guitar scene since the 60's. Has his own pickup line but I thought this thread was concerned more with custom winders than off the shelf so didn't include a link. Will remedy that now.
