Noob from MN

Hello everyone! I love what I've seen on this forum, so I decided to join. Here's my story:

I started playing stand up bass in 5th grade in school. I played in Orchestra through high school with a couple of years of Jazz Band (stand up) and Pep Band (electric). Also during high school, I played bluegrass and played electric bass in an amateur country band. Oh, and a few years of Youth Symphony Orchestra. But after high school, I didn't play at all. So, here we are 19 years later, and I saw an ad for a local Jazz Ensemble starting. I contacted the director and have been playing for 6 months now. I LOVE getting back into music!! It's amazing how much I remembered from all those years ago! I leave rehearsal with a smile on my face and blisters on my fingers!

We practice at a junior high, and I have been using the school's bass, because I wasn't sure if this was going to work out. Now I need to get a bass, but I don't want to spend a lot of money (hopefully less than $3000). I don't plan to make a full-time career out of this, so I don't see spending more than that. I'm hoping that I can get some suggestions on what kind to start out on. I checked into renting, and it's either too expensive (I may as well buy one), or they only rent to students. I looked at a local music shop, and they have some in stock. The one that caught my eye was a KC Strings 7/8 hybrid for $2900 which included bow, bag, and stand. Any thoughts?
