noob help required

carlbro stingray bass head

just dug out my old solid state bass head,powered it up,sounds so distorted even at low volumes.
I tried another cab , and the sound is still the same.
Some one suggested i replace all the capacitors,on both the preamp,and the
power amp.
Is it possible that a transistor has shorted?
Any ideas what the problem could be?
Only positive comments please i ask for your help,not criticism !!

How are you ever going to fix it yourself?? No disrespect but if you had the skills you would not have opened this thread. Please take the amp to a tech before you turn your $50 repair bill into several hundred.

Second the above. It might only cost $50 for somebody to tell you what's wrong, and at least save you $50 worth of parts you didn't need to replace.

Hum, I understand the motivation behind trying to fix this yourself.

Honestly, a TOOB amp is generally a better project to learn on as there's visable signs as the first level of trouble shooting; with SS you generally don't see anything. The TOOB amp will also wake you up or put you to sleep depending on how hard you hit the B+ which is also a good indicator of failure modes.

The caps in this amp unless you know where to buy them and what exactly to buy will cost you rediculous sums of money. If you just pulled out your old head and its screwed, well the best thing to do with it is put it back where you found it and save up for a new one.

I wouldn't waste my time or money messing around, seriously.

Just list it as semi broken on eBay or Craig's list and sell it to somebody who knows how to fix it or has the money to fix it right. Then go buy an inexpensive and quality bass amp that works.
