I will be getting a Nordy P5 pickup from Roger Sadowsky next week.. I will comparing it to the Duncan P5.. I know the Duncan already sounds great.. But it will nice to compqare the two side by side...
I have seen some sadowsky P5 basses with Nordys in the past. .but i dont know if they are an option or a one off....
Hope to report about the difference between the two soon.. Everytime i deal with Sadowsky guitars I just cant say how wonderful and incredible their customer service is...Just over the top in every way imaginable.

Hey all, anyone want to comment further on the Big Splits? I should be getting an R Bass soon and Ray'll be dropping Big Splits in it. I'm a dual coil guy but I'm always game to try something new. Ray digs the hell out of 'em so I want to trust that.

Andy, my big splits should arrive soon - I went an ordered BEM covers and that has held them up a few weeks
.Report when fitted, but am sure I have made a good decision based on the scant information from a couple of other players.

I had a chance to play Adrian Garcia's Nordy Vj5 this past weekend. His bass has Big Splits. In short, I confirmed they are exactly the PU's I want installed in the Nordy vJ5 I have on order. They are awesome! They can get funky and sound Marcus-ish, and they can get Jaco tones all day long. They growl, they have a sweet top end, excellent punch and lows, perfect mids. I am sold. I'm glad you asked -- I was just thinking about replying about this.
I got them in and they're AWESOME. Right now they're hardwired in Series, but I might install a 3-way series/parallel/sc switch. Honestly, though, I have a feeling I'd still keep them in Series, because the sound very close to what I want.
They're a much better match for my sound than the Big Singles were. I found the BS to be very full and clean sounding, and very even from top to bottom, but as I mentioned before I realized they were a bit too 'polite'. I had thought because they were 'overwound' that they would have some nice low-mids and not a lot of highs, but that wasn't the case. Carey really wanted to re-wind them for me, but I didn't want to experiment any more with them...based on descriptions I had read on pickup types, Series-wired DC's seemed like the only thing that would meet my needs.
While the DC's aren't super mid heavy, they are definitely a bit 'meatier' than the BS. Also the highs roll off at a better point for me, and they seem to respond better to both the blend control AND the tone control. The BS were more like subtle coloration when you blended or adjusted the tone, and with the DC's you can get more of a range of sounds.
I don't really want to write a full review until I have gigged with these yet, but I should have some recordings of them soon, so I will post a link when they're complete. So far, I'm very optimistic though.

Oops, sorry, I meant Big Singles, which I had in my NJ6 before the DC install.
I also forgot to mention, it's nice to have no extraneous noise when one pickup is soloed with the DC's. The BSingle's noise never really bothered me when I had them, but it's a nice bonus to not have it at all now.

Thanks so much Aram. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I'm so glad that the pickups are working out for you. I'm sure I'll just go with whatever Ray puts in the bass. If I don't like them than I'll just put Bartolini Classic Bass pickups in the bass as I know that I like those a lot.
Have you thought about a preamp, either outboard or onboard for your bass, or do you already get what you want going passive?

Hey Andy -- on my way out the door to an upright gig, but I'll answer quickly that I generally get all the tone I need from passive pickups and the EQ on my amp...found a few summers ago that onboard pre's end up just distracting me, and I focus on just blending pickups now, a little tone rolloff, and then I (try to) do the rest with my hands.
There are a couple of NYC venues, though, that have TERRIBLE backlines that completely lack any balls. So for that reason I picked up a Sadowsky Pre/DI. I take it to most gigs just in case the amp gives out, or doesn't have anything close to my beloved 40hz boost, but generally passive works fine for most venues. Oh, also have a MultiComp for the same reason (lousy backline), but again if the amp is sufficient I don't need either of those.

Would it be possible to mix two different types of pickups? Maybe like a Big Split neck and a Dual Coil bridge?
Interesting idea -- I don't see why it wouldn't work. I don't think the DC's have that much more output than the Big Splits/Singes, so it should probably work.

Finally got the Big Splits installed on my Roscoe and they are great. Smoother sounding than I was expecting but plenty of high/high mid bite and plenty of clean low end/low mid.
Muuch less boomy than the Bart/Roscoe pickup with nice articulation. I guess these are a slightly smoother version of the Big Singles.
These are nice a quiet with no interference when I used them live - can't wait to give them a nother go this weekend. They work very well with the Aggie OBP3 pre I have and man they sound awesome for slapping with!

Guys, little dilemma...
I'm looking to give more live to my MIA Jazz Deluxe... the Big Singles wouldn't fit the current cavity though... anybody compared them with the Nordstrand NJ5F ? Anybody has mounted the Big Singles on their jazz enlarging current pickup holes to fit the Big Singles ?

Guys, I'm thinking of doing this to my MIA Jazz bass but am weary of making the pickup route bigger, Big Singles do sound EXACTLY what I am looking for though...any experience in doing this to an already beautiful jazz bass?
I had Cliff Bordwell put Big Singles in my custom ball bass and I really love them. Coupled with an Audere pre-amp you really can bring out the agression in the PUs with a dash of mids boost. But I love the bridge PU tone with a dash of bass and a dash of mids. Hmm creamy.

NorCalDog and I have both done that to our Squire Deluxe fivers. Best thing to do, if you don't have the experience and the tools, is to buy a template from Brian at BestBassgear and have someone do the routing for you.
I am very happy with the results, aesthetically and soundwise. I now run the bass passive VVT.
thanks guys, im really leaning towards doing this, just makes me a little weary since I wouldnt be able to replace them as easily. but the sound seems exactly what i am looking for
