So it’s officially released now: Poly Vox is the new Nordstrand multi coil pickup. Thought I’d create a new thread to discuss, post clips, reviews….

Couple pix:

Interesting design, I thought they might go for two coils per string. I wonder if this means the 5 string version has 5 coils?

The picture of the 5 string version shows five coils.

This pic? It does indicate the same arrangement, yeah, but could still have two coils per string, no?

I suppose it would be hard to squeeze in two coils per string given that third/middle pole or magnet. I wonder which part uses the ceramic magnet?

I just happen to be talking to Nick at Nordstrand about the JC-3B/Big Blademan offering and he mentioned the Poly Vox today.

I have the current questions in with him:

1. Are they (poly vox 4) one coil per string?

2. How does the JC-3B pair with them?

3. How would they pair with a filter pre-amp.

I have a 35DC Spector ZeBop that I am looking to do something special with.

it doesn’t work 100%. I suppose you’d have about 1/5 of the hum of a single coil. Might be close enough?
They're selling separate bridge and neck pickups so I assume the magnet and winding patterns combine for a full complement of RWRP coils when using both.

fwiw, split-coil humbuckers for 5-string also usually have one coil larger than the other leading to less than 100% hum cancellation; I suspect in most cases it's good enough even if it's not perfect.

From what I've been able to surmise, there are 2 coils per string, corresponding to the 2 pole pieces that you can see through the pickup cover (that is, offset the same way the Big Rig pole pieces are...)

In the side picture showing the coils, the "back" coils just happen to be directly behind the "front" coils due to the angle.

The photo in OP's post shows one coil per string, positioned diagonally.
