Sometimes, the set up would go on so long or be so elaborate that you'd forget you were in the middle of a joke then he'd hit you with the punchline out of nowhere. BAM!
His "knick knack Patty Wack, give the frog a loan" bit is another great example.

And at the end of the day I think it’s why he wasn’t more famous than he was. Most people’s attention span can’t handle it.
One of the best to ever do it, and one of the last living people I can think of to be unanimously regarded as such.

We rarely got much exposure to him, in the U.K. but whenever he did appear in something, he was just side splitting.
I think he's probably best known, this side of the pond, for his utterly priceless Burt Reynolds persona, in "My Name Is Earl".
It's a real shame we didn't get to see more of his work, over here.
Hopefully this will at least result in a goldmine of his material trending on YouTube, and wider appreciation.

I just watched the Moth joke a couple of times.. I don't know...I can see where some people might lose interest, but holy cow, that is some of the funniest banter I can remember seeing. Norm ruled at the most unfunny, funny things. I guess you just have to be in tune.....
He told a dolphin joke on Conan. Then Andy Richter said, I feel like I went on a four mile hike just to show me a dog t**d. And then Norm literally fell out of his seat laughing.
RIP Norm. He was a regular in this town for a number of years before he hit big. I recall seeing him at Yuk Yuks a bunch of time. Loved his deadpan style.
For anyone interested, there’s a great YouTube channel called “I’m Not Norm” that has hours and hours of his past work on SNL, Conan, Letterman and his own podcast. His humor was just on another level, IMO. The Bob Saget roast speaks to his unique approach to the craft.
