I just bought a set of Maxima 24k Gold Flatwounds.
These were purchased in the late 80s and never opened.

Now I'm wondering on what kind of bass they might go.

Same here, in the late ‘90s. Longest I ever had the same set of roundwound strings on an instrument I played regularly!

I would put them on a bass guitar. They aren't long enough scale for a double bass.

You can’t really tell from this photo, but I have gold hardware on my main Jazz and it’s had Optima Gold round wound strings on it for years now. I like the look!
That’s what I would do…spend more money on gold hardware to go with your stings.
