Not jazzed about jazz bridge pickup sound

What do you play through and how do you set your EQ? Moving the pickup close to the strings is not a bad idea at all, as long as you're not hitting the poles with the strings all the time. I keep mine very close, but the poles are radiused, so you might have to be more concerned for the string to string balance.

I have a vintage SVT and 810 which I just got, but have been playing through 2-1x15's and a Peavey MKIII. Knobs's at 12 on the SVT, and set for rock according to the manual on the Peavey.

By the way, I think it's strange that you liked the bridge tone on the Geddy, because its pickup is even closer to the bridge, in the 1970's position. That should be even more twangy.

The Geddy had lighter strings, and different pickups. Sounded different to me, and better, also the action was lower.

I appreciate the input, I'm still learning, and have a lot to learn. I'm going to experiment more with the EQ to see if I can find a happy medium, and fool with the pickup height. I'm playing with a pic over the neck pickup, but have recently got into playing with my fingers and slapping with my thumb.

Only follow the manual as a starting point. There is no one EQ setting that works with every bass and every amp, and certainly not for every person's ears and taste! That rock setting is probably supposed to be twangy.

By all means move those knobs around until you get something you like.

Try reducing the upper mids and treble frequencies.

The Geddy also has a Badass bridge.

It takes a while to find your tone with a bass/amp combination, especially when you first start out. Just keep messing with it.
