I've noticed that sometimes I'm not being alerted when there's new posts in several threads I am in involved with ("Watching"). Sometimes I have to hunt down the thread I was watching and check it manually, instead of just clicking on the alert drop down menu. There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern - sometimes I'm notified, and sometimes not. I've also noticed that when clicking on All Alerts, some threads that I'm involved in don't show up on the list at all. Could there be a bug in the alerting system?

I too have noticed this, both alerts and email notifications seem a bit unreliable.

This is the understatement of all understatements regarding the new "functionality". Total FUBAR is a better description for all e-mail notifications and alerts for watched / subscribed threads.

A thread I read yesterday and the day before and have been following almost daily for close to a year, shows most recent unread post to be back in Feb (and every post since, including the ones I've read this week). "IF" and that is an unreliable if, I get e-mail notification and click on the attached link it takes me to post #1 of the thread, not anywhere near the most current post that may be 800 post farther in. In some cases I must sign in to simply read the thread.

Let's focus on missing alerts for a bit: Can you post some links to threads that you're positive you did not receive alerts for, and you should have? Feel free to start a conversation with me if you don't want to share here. Thanks! This will help me dig into the database for possible clues.

As there are hundreds of sites running xenforo and the Alerts system is core to the xenforo product, I'm thinking there is not a bug in the software, but rather in how some of our data was migrated over.

Well, this probably isn't of much help at this point, but my alerts seem to be working again. I don't know if it was just a matter revisiting the threads that gave the process a bump or maybe saving my browsing and alert preferences again, but I just checked my list of watched threads and it doesn't look like I've missed anything in the past few days. You fixed it! You're amazing. :hyper:

I think maybe in my case what is happening, especially since new messages are included in the notification email, is that I don't visit every thread at the time of the notification and then forget about them. I assume the forum system will then not send me any more alerts on that thread.

That's exactly correct. You won't get any new alerts until you actually revisit the thread.

Have you actually visited the thread since the last alert? (see previous post)

Nope. In fact, I hadn't been on TB at all. I got on TB this morning, and manually had to look for those two threads to see if any new posts were made. There had been several, but I didn't receive any new alerts about it.

You won't get an alert until after you visit the thread. Same way email notifications worked before. If you were sub'ed to a thread and there were 15 new replies, you didn't get 15 emails... you got one. Until you visited the thread again, then you'd get another notification on next new post etc.

Same with alerts. You wont have a stack of 15 alerts in your alert box if you haven't visited the thread since the last alert. So like @FretNoMore said, if you're reading new messages in the notification email, or otherwise haven't visited a thread you're watching since the last alert, you won't get any new alerts until you actually read the thread. Hope this makes sense?

I'm consistently not getting alerts.

This morning is a good example, was on last at 11 pm, no updates listed this morning when I logged in, but there were several updates to a thread I'm subscribed to.

Using safari on iOS this case.

Are you sure that you actually visited the thread since your last alert for the thread (not just read the alert or the email, but the actual thread)? You will not keep getting alerts for the same thread if you haven't visited it. This prevents your alerts from filling up if 50 people reply to a thread.
