Not sure if this is a dumb idea- would love comments on possible build

I'm posting this in the Bass section, as I'm not much of a bassist.
I'm hoping to build myself an instrument, but tbh am not sure if I'm just being silly and impractical.

I'm thinking of building something like a Gavret Dragonfly, but with a Fralin 51 noiseless pickup and Nova headless tuners...in 32" scale, and with an upper horn extending to the 12th fret (I'm picturing something that folds out).
Sorta like a Steinberger with folding wings, and made of wood.

Is there something decent and inexpensive out there already? Or is this something that honestly won't be that useful?

As a player, would that be something appealing?
Usually, I build for others, but this time I'm hoping to build for me. However, I'm not much of a bassist.

That Dragonfly is a very advanced design. It would take some serious skill to not only design it but to build it as well. That said I would say build what you want.

My main bass is an Ibanez EHBSMS1005, which is a headless 32/30 multiscale - so what you are describing is interesting to me, and I own the most affordable version of a similar thing.

I used the nova headless tuners in a recent build - very nice!

Depending on how much experience you have with woodworking, maybe try building a regular bass, first?

I'll be starting with a body using some construction lumber for a spare Peavey neck I have sitting around. I'll be just dropping in a pickguard with some prewired pickups, and a spare badass bridge.

I'm thinking of this as the next step....and with the bolt on, so that I can experiment with different weird stuff like wings that are bolt on, or a somethign with folding wings using a T-track.
