Double Bass Nova Strings "Bulletproof" Tailcord

Hi folks,

I'm new to the forum, glad to be here. I'm a full-time luthier with my own shop. I do mostly violin-cello work, with some bass work. I'm currently refurbishing a '66 Kay M-1 for my own use, complete set-up top to bottom. I've decided to ditch the traditional stiff wire tailpiece hanger and replace it with a modern tailcord. Nova Strings (Eastman Accessories) markets a "bulletproof" tailcord. They claim it isn't true Kevlar, rather an equivalent multi-fiber synthetic material made in the USA. I decided to order one as I needed other items form Nova this week anyways. I'll install it this weekend and see how I like it. Has anyone tried the cord from Nova?

I installed my tailcord several weeks ago and it appears extremely stable. Just a matter of two simple overhand knots, one right through the other and it's snug. No tools needed, simple enough. I was able to cut off the excess length with a blade, but it seems strong enough on it's own. Whoever is manufacturing this stuff is making a killing. $12 for a foot of cord?

An overhand knot is pretty lightweight. I'd rather use a double fisherman's knot- they tend to hold to about 80%+ of the breaking strength of the cord.

bowline, there are several cords with extreme break strength and very low stretch. I don't know any one in the biz who's making a killing, some just survive better.
