Now I'm mad

i see ny is trying to ban trans fats, here in greenville they want to eliminate smokin in public places, eatin places, bars and so on. if we as americans aint carefull we aint gona be able to do anything. whats next, no pepsi. americas children are overweight. well damn, get em outside rather than playin them video games. i aint seen a young un ride a bike or play tag. tag, oh there is another sore subject. ban tag at school. well someone might get hurt. its excersize people. why do people care what i eat? hey i can make my own decisions. no smokin in bars. who are these idiots. do i smoke, no. does it bother me when you smoke, no. people have just as much right to smoke as i do not to. that is what made america great. the ability to do what you choose. now i reckon its the civic leaders who figure what good for me. is it just me or does anyone else feel this way?

If you eat a burger while I'm sitting next to you, then that doesn't affect me.

If you smoke a cigarette while I'm sitting next to you, then that DOES affect me. It makes me feel ill, my eyes start burning, my throat hurts, my clothes smell, and oh yeah, it increases the risk of ME getting cancer.

So, think a little longer before you start piling everything up.

I don't think that people have a right to smoke such that other people have to inhale their smoke to go to public places. Also, workers should have the right to a certain standard of workplace safety. I think that most of this legislation is related to workplace safety. Since when is smoking a right anywhere?

That's kind of a strw man excuse... People have the choice...

If we were to have any kind of regulation, there ought to be hard wall dividers between smoking and non smoking. A local mexican place had (until the city banned smoking) a separate smoking section with a filter unit on the ceiling. I sat IN the smoking section and could not smell smoke. I have NO problem with that. Also, if waiters do not want to serve a smoking section, then they should not have to. If they get fired for expressing that, then the business should be fined heavily, and the person gets their job compensation, or their job back.

As with anything, it should be a choice. When I don't want to go to a place where smoke is, I just don't. That's all.

“my right to extend my arm ends where your nose begins”

smoking should darn well fit into that.

in my area some communities have passed ordinances saying that you can't smoke within 25 feet of the entrance to a buisness.

best idea ever as far as i'm concerned, it's nice to be able to walk down the street on my lunch break without choking on someone's exaust

Uhhh... pursuit of happiness mean anything to you. Anyway, I don't smoke and yes... it is not argueable, the govt. has overstepped boundries on personal freedoms. It has for many years.

Name one case of person who has been diagnosed and treated for cancer or disease due to second-hand smoke from public dining areas, bars, or shops...

Your smoke in my lungs is assaault, and your stench on my clothes and gear is destruction of property. I don't urinate on you and your gear, you don't pollute me and mine - simple as that.

Bars and restaurants are public places and governed by public safety laws - they are not "private businesses".

Many places have had these "bans" - they're not bans but actually long overdue enforcements of public and workplace safety laws that have been on the books for ages - and bar & restaurant attendance has not suffered at all ... improved maybe.

This topic has been done with great acrimony, ignorance, whining, and comedy - try a search on "new york smoking" or "smoking ban" to find those threads.

People used to smoke in offices too. I guess those of us who don't want to be poisoned had the choice to be unemployed and live in poverty. Bull####.

Your rights end where mine begin. You don't want to be assaulted? Don't assault me with your filth.

:)

I see that you're a mod... so I'll just say this... nothing... I think anyone can read that speaks for itself... closeminded, self-centered, and very common for American.

Yeah, and it would make me very happy to beat mercilessly people who stink up my clothes and yellow my gear. Do you support me doing so?

Why does someone have to get cancer to make this legit in your mind? You don't get cancer if I urinate on you while you're eating, so is that OK? Isn't it enough if I lose resale value because my gear stinks and is yellowed, or if my eyes burn, or my clothes are ruined?

You sound very angry... ever think about sitting down and talking to somebody... get in touch with your inner child/self type thing?? I mean beating people... you obviously haven't ever been beaten down or were beaten down some as a teen. It's no fun. Bad form... violence :(

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not.. but if you were serious, I think you were very much so missing SMASH's point.

I see you missed the point.

I don't see how he really made a point, well at least a valid point to defend his vehement belief in a false sense of governance.

When emotion is high, logic is low.

I can see both sides of the coin, tho... so I try to walk the middle line, but the mandated action taken is extreme and an intrusion on personal freedom.

BTW... I hate the smell of cig smoke and all that goes along with it.

I have been assaulted by noxious smoke, and had my clothes yellowed by and stenching of it, my eyes and throat burned, and my kleenex filled with blackened snot after many a gig, thanks.

No anger problems here. No problems with reading comprehension, logic, and common decency either, unlike some people. I know my rights too, and I know the difference between a "public place" that enjoys many beenfits and profits thanks to *all* taxpayers and a private place.

I smoke cigars, but I don't make others smoke. Ever.

Now please explain to me how someone smoking on me is any different than me urinating on them? If they don't like being urinated on they have the choice to stay home, no? It really bugs me that the gov't has laws in place to stop people from enjoying the happiness of urinating wherever and on whomever they please.

Why should I have to go all the way to the restroom to urinate just because some joykillers and sensitive bar staff don't want me urinating all over the place? No one has ever died of being urinated on. Some people even enjoy it !

What if there's a line-up at the can? I shouldn't have to wait. I should just be allowed to take a leak behind your bass rig. If you don't like it, don't play in retaurants and bars where peoples' bladders are full !

:bassist:

You should try drywalling for 6 months...

What a ridiculous analogy with no founded correlation at all.

last i knew people choose where to work and where to eat, if you want a smoke free environment then move somewhere where they're pulling this nonsense of forcing restaurants to ban it
