If a Stingray crushes everything...I'd be very apprehensive about one falling into my lap...ouch!
It's only a matter of time. Everything comes around. We're still in the "it's a Pbass world" world for the most part, but we're seeing more Jazzes in the hands of "popular" bass players again, and the amount of Rics and other non-FSOs we see these days is sometimes surprising to me. I can see the 'Ray making a big "comeback"--not that it ever went anywhere, but you know what I mean. When the first-call session cats always have to have a 'Ray in their rack with the multiple P's, J's(maybe), and mandatory "quirky cool shortscale".

I love the fit and feel of my Sterling, but hated the pickup. Now I have an 80s-era Stingray pup in it and that brought it all together for me!
Next month: "Why the EB-0 crushes everything"...bass-hackers.
I find their YouTube and social media marketing confusing because the teaching content on SBL is actually really fantastic. But the business has grown into something huge so obviously they're doing something right.
I like Mark from TalkingBass, I feel like his videos are no nonsense and all meat, I haven't done any paid content but I like his teaching style.

I've been a member of SBL since 2016. I really haven't gone through a whole lot of their courses but I like some of the seminars. Todd Johnson has some good basic teaching and Rufus Philpot has good content for more advanced concepts.
Their YouTube videos are pretty cringe and it's really kind of disappointing to me. I kind of miss the "early days" Scott when he used to have no nonsense videos.
I agree that Mark from TalkingBass is a great teacher. To the point. I purchased his Groove course which I think is really good.

I remember back in the 90s-early 2000s I'd often be up late scrolling through the TV and I'd come across those dudes on QVC selling knives. They'd be screaming, jumping up and down and just flat out LOSING IT effusively going off on how these were the best knives EVER and they were practically giving them away!!! SBL is starting to lean into that territory. It's embarrassing. Comes off as phony AF.
Sold ALL of my Stingrays, after discovering the U.S.A. Sterling. But... My '79 Sabre GREEN refin still RULES. Even compared to the '79.all original Burst next to it, in my avatar.
I like that they curse personally. It's how most folks I know use language in the real world. Seems less performative. Like Leonard Cohen said: 'Theres no dirty words, just dirty minds..' or to that effect. Makes them endearing
I can't disagree that a Stingray is a crushing bass. It's the only single pickup bass that I really, really like.
However, a J crushes the Stingray, in my world. haha.

1: My Ray 35 is the heaviest bass I own. But it's a lot of fun. It's not a "real" Stingray but I don't care. Does what I want. Aluminium cans are not safe near it.
2: SBL YouTube vids have been useful to me. Succinct. But my gosh he's got gappy since he shares the spotlight.
3: Did a slap course coz I was struggling to make double thump work. No complaints with the course. But after I got FOMO bait emails starting "As a member you are entitled..." But when I enquired further that department all but accused me of trying to scam them. Very frosty.
Talking bass is much more fun to deal with.

I'm pretty sure they've already done the same video for the P bass and Jazz bass. It's just a way to talk about what they like about a type of bass.
and of course, people also love to click on videos for gear they own or for gear they are shopping for.
