NPD: Broughton Power Stage

I prefer the PS at the front of the chain as a tone enhancer, and set it up on the verge of breakup.

I can't wait to get my Diamond comp! (Thanks, @sporad!)

After messing around with the PS for a few weeks I mimic Azure Skies with how he uses the PS. In my mind, almost as an always on "preamp/tone enhancer" as opposed to an "overdrive". I couldn't quite dial in the love on the PS with my L2000 until I realized I always use my L2k with the pre on (w/out treble boost). I ran it passive into the PS and there was the tone in my head! I wasn't really about the output of the L2k with the pre on. Just how it interacted with the Power Stage. No idea why? From what I understand the preamp on the L2k is more like a buffer than a treble boost. Whatever that means.

BUT, my active Scheff was an instant perfect match with the Power Stage. Go figure.

Only thing I'd like the Power Stage to have is a treble control or a LPF. Just sold my Broughton HPF/LPF. May have to pick up a mini LPF when the slush fund gets revived. Been a spendy month (or two)! :help:

Hey

I used an optifet from FEA in front of the PS tonight at our gig and it sounded great. I love the PS on triode mode with the boost pretty high. Just an awesome always on pedal.
My first impressions were favoring triode mode, too: boost way up and triode mode. But in a mix I found myself pushing the morph towards pentode (still below noon though), which provided all kinds of lovely texture.

I need to spend more time really fine-tuning morph/boost combinations, and experimenting with placement in the chain (so far I'm favoring early). There are excellent solo/recorded tones to be had in this box (triode), but conversely it seems to also provide tones that sound so-so in isolation, but amazing in a mix (pentode). But again, first impressions, I need to experiment more and find some of the aforementioned "sweet spots"

If anyone has thoughts to share on where you favor the morph control, please do share...
