I've added the Broughton ( @Azure Skies ) to a board that can either stand alone for IEM's (Rolls PM351 underneath), or run into a power amp/cab.
I was looking for something that added *some* warmth back into the signal, as i struggle to carry around my Marshall VBA400.. i also like a chunk of distortion, which can get a bit fizzy without running into an amp/cab to tame it a bit, particularly with IEM's.
I took a bit of a punt on this pedal, after paying close attention to the opinions of people on the TalkBass forum... their wisdom has led to nearly all of the other ace gear that appears on the pedalboard! ( @Darkglass @Silent Fly )

From a quick play this morning, i'm happy to say that this pedal gives some lovely smooth edges, adds a bit of that tube '3D' vibe & will get nice and dirty when you turn the 'Morph' knob. It seems perfect for the purpose of adding some depth back in & seems a dream addition for in-ears...! I'm certain that it'll be a permanent feature. I'll see if i can get some clips together later & give some more useful info about how it sounds.

It also gets beautifully warm too (not hot), which is just one of the tube delights...

Not to derail the thread, but how's the Polytune Mini? I could afford to get something smaller than my Korg Pitchblack.

Loving my Broughton HPF so far... really would like to try a Power Stage (or P-15) next!

The Mini has been great. Reads really low notes (drop A & below) and is super-clear to see.
The Thumpinator before it certainly helps more accurate low-note response.

Thanks! Its taken a long time to be able to afford to put them all together! Also moving away from 'effects' to pedals that are all about tone-shaping took a while..... everything here i consider essential & with an amp or not, i get the same core tone that compliments my basses.

Its actually a really basic way to raise it up, i just found two units that were about the same height.. so the PP2+ & the Rolls PM351 and 3M'd them to the underside! No feet extensions or anything else.
If you use the rough-side of the velcro on the opposite side of the units, it acts as a floor-grip on carpets/rugs too. I guess a nicely placed set of rubbery-grip feet would be better for shiny surfaces.

I'll have a go at doing that for you next week.. take you through the settings to hear what it does to the sound.

I was being a bit of an idiot when i first got the Broughton. I wound up the 'Boost' and was adjusting the 'Morph' for effect, thinking it would be the best way to use it.. i think that comes from using tube amps by max'ing the Volume & adjusting Gain to taste.
I've found actually turning down the 'Boost' and varying the 'Morph' gave more interesting results & nicer break up that wasn't quite so full-on.

To describe the pedal (so far), it seems to break up the lower mids and give really nice grit/chunk/drive in that area. An overdrive pedal like the B7K, as comparison, works higher up in terms of its distortion and is more of a 'fizzy' sound.

Its very easy to forget the Broughton is on, much like the Thumpinator. Its just doing nice things to your sound!

I was going to reply with the same answer. The PS breaks up nicely at particular boost settings depending on your morph setting and what bass you're using. It's not like a typical OD where more Boost = more OD. It's easy to miss the sweet spot if you just crank the boost.

I've got my Boost and Morph at 9:00. Volume at unity. It's just right on the edge of breakup. Sound very good in a mix.

The other thing i haven't had a chance to try yet, is how it affects the sounds on IEM's, which was part of the point of me getting the PS in the first place! (I'll try and given some useful feedback for people on this as well..)
A nicer, warmer, more pleasing sound with IEM's is always welcome.. without having to shell out for mad-expensive multi-driver pairs.
