NPD: Electronic Audio Experiments Halberd v2

NEW PEDAL DAY— I’ve been a huge fan of Electronic Audio Experiments’ offerings for a long while now, and impulsively decided to jump on their latest version of the Halberd.

It sounds as nice as it looks. Super flavorful overdrive with a LOT of tasteful gain on tap.
I’m geeking out that its typeface coincidentally matches the Depth Charge I recently purchased.
Only played on it for an hour or so but can’t wait to experiment some more & take some notes on settings.
It’s does the medium low gain thing VERY well!!
If you’ve got one too, feel free to share some of your settings here as well!

I couldn’t resist! The demo vids reeled me in, and I’m very thankful. Was looking for something to use the same way I did the Southampton Fifth Gear but this turned out to be an entirely different animal.. the Voice switch is amazing! Looking forward to experimenting with parallel chains once my OBNE Signal Blender gets here. I maybe incorporate this into my “clean” tone for its clean blend feature.

Self-debating if i take the plunge on this one. Dig my Halberd V1, with the exception it got a mid bump in the 500Hz or so which isn't that great with bass imo. Using a blend (Broughton FFXL) makes it much better sounding, at least for my taste. The reason why this 'Voice' switch addition looks intriguing and appealing, could save some real-estate on the pedalboard. Is the up or down position a better fit with bass for you ? That being said, didn't read many comments on this V1 mid bump, maybe it's just me.

The up position is super trebly hi-fi but the down position is my fave. There’s a lot more chunky thick gain going on in that position which can can be bolstered by the Post & Pre knobs.. it’s great!
The middle position is nice too. I never played a v1 but know I’d enjoy it if I did.

I was hoping someone would start an EAE or Halberd V2 thread. The Halberd V2 is a good one!! John did a great job with this pedal, imo.. I'm still getting used to it but its already a favorite OD. I've been plugging into it every day. The dirt is sophisticated and I like how responsive to playing dynamics it is. The highs sound natural and it maintains definition. The woolly grind is awesome.

...There's a lot of dirty sweet spots, but I've been going back and forth between the Standard and Deep voice. The settings in the *pics are usually where I end up. Right now, I'm leaning more towards the Deep voice. Cleaned up with a slight pillow-y grunt. Its good .. Highly recommend

That green looks so cool! I’m in love with the grind this thing puts out too. Also having a hard time deciding between the middle / down toggle position.. I dig that it covers so much ground.

How's the low end on this version? Specifically with the toggle switch down. From what I've heard of the V1, there's a decent amount of cut.

I haven't tried the V1 to compare. But, the Standard voice has a tighter bottom than the Deep voice. The settings also affect the low end. For example, turning up the Post and dialing back the Tone knob boosts lows. The Deep voice has a full range boost and its thicker and fuller.

It’s its own thing. Sounds really cool IMO. Their site has some info on it, but the YouTube video demos did me in.

My only major gripe about the Halberd is that they put a really cool looking label (which includes the serial #) right on the bottom of the enclosure where velcro needs to go!
(This is not my photo but I do have # 585 coincidentally lol)

You can’t velcro over that!
No biggie though— I’m ordering an empty 125B enclosure & will transplant its bottom plate to the Halberd. The OG plate will live in the pedal’s box.

The EAE labels are pretty robust, if you're worried about damaging it. Transferring the plate is a good idea though!

How is the midrange on the Halberd? I really want to like the Model feT, but it didn't have enough mids for my taste.

I parted with my old Model feT for the same reason. Great pedal but didn’t fall in love with it, granted mine was a v2!
The Halberd’s gots mids for days, especially in the Standard & Clang voice settings (middle & up positions.)
Also, good to know about the label. I’m not usually one to care about stuff like that but I’d hate to mess it up. I have an enclosure on the way, so problem solved!

Good idea. I was the same about Longsword's bottom plate, so I cut some plastic to fit over the labels then applied Velcro on top.

Speaking of which, Halberd > Longsword produces some killer overdriven tones.

Just put a teeny strip of dual lock on the bottom and the top where the label doesn’t reach.
