NPD: Emma Electronic OKTO-NØJS

I have no idea how I found out about this pedal; I think I was on the Godlyke website looking at something else entirely and stumbled upon it. It apparently just came out a couple weeks ago; the website still shows it in preorder status but here mine is.

It sounded good in description and in the demo videos, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Costs about the same as my favorite B:assmaster which I was toying with getting another of.

Basically it does just what it says on the tin - OKTO is an octave effect, and NØJS (noise) is a fuzz. Independently switchable and they hit the signal in parallel. The fuzz is purported to be an octave-type, but it's not as high gain as a brassmaster type. Way more civilized.

Intriguing bits:
- They claim the octave, all analog, can track down to the low E no problem, and even lower with "minor wobble"

- Octave sounds like an OC2/Octabvre when the tone is turned up, seems to be able to go above unity in the demos

- The fuzz ALSO has a suboctave square fuzz to it (top 3 black knobs are the normal fuzz, bottom 2 black knobs are tone and level for the sub-fuzz)

- Top left knob is dry level, blended with both effects I believe.

I'm at work so I haven't tried it for myself yet, but I'm very hopeful! (I really wish I had any facility for recording stuff into my laptop.)

Weeeelllllllll that didn't go as well as I'd hoped. The sounds are great - the octave tone and fuzz sounds themselves I really dig! But, with my setup anyways, I didn't get the solid octave tracking I wanted. I have a passive PJ, and tried the tone down/neck only trick... Might have fared better with a comp, but my BSW's octave still takes it. Ah well, c'est la musique.

I was wondering if you were still using the OKTO NØJS. I love mine (full disclosure, I'm an endorsing artist). Are you still having trouble with the tracking? I never had this experience using either active or passive basses. This is a really fun pedal that has a bunch of great tones in it.

I picked one up just before the pandemic, and I love it. Mine tracks great, in fact better than any other octave I've tried. I especially like that everything can be set, and all three effect options sound cool without touching a knob. Other combo pedals tend to require tweaks.
