NPD: Joyo American Sound

I just got one of these and am pretty impressed, especially for the $30 price I was able to snag. The manual is utterly useless for finding what frequencies we're working with ("BASS - This control bass sound". Yeah ok, thanks  ) but I was able to find Link Removed that Tone Alchemists did. They found that the Voice control cut 400hz but boosted 800hz, which Is kinda ideal for me. It'll make a nice addition to my little board!

It's a great pedal for sure, even if I personally prefer the Joyo Oxford Sound, that is meant to emulate an Orange type amp.

Here's a bunch a graphs comparing the Joyo American Sound with the pedal it is based on, but not identical to (it is not simply a clone, Joyo added their own touch to it), the Tech 21 Blonde, both seeking to emulate a Fender type amp, with the frequency response and range of the different EQ controls on the two pedals respectively: Joyo American vs Tech21 Blonde comparison (many graphs)

Also the "Voice" control (corresponding to the "Character" control on the original Tech 21 Blonde), is pre gain stage, rather than post as the 3 others (where you would usually put EQ controls), which means that it got a huge influence on the character of the drive.

Every one of the Joyo "Sound" series of pedals are excellent, each has their own unique flavor. FYI these are based on the discontinued Tech 21 Character series of pedals intended for guitar but I find them just as useful on bass. This is based on the Blonde Character Fender voice. Over the years I have owned them all, only to be replaced with a corresponding Sushi Box tube pedal for my collection.

Which of this line was your favorite?

For an amp in a box they are all really good, well designed and quiet. For a favorite the American Sound was on my board as an always on until I got a @johnk_10 FET-F2B and now I am using an Underground Accelerator and later a Bass Dude both from @Sushi Box FX in that always on spot. The Bassman has long been my favorite amp for guitar and bass. The only one I have left is the California Sound [Boogie in a box] but I used the British [Marshall] quite a bit until it was bumped for a JC Emerald.

I'm surprised you'd go from an American Sound to an Underground Accelerator. I've had both, and to me the American sound was extremely colored and hyped, whereas the UA is quite transparent. Totally different animals to my ears. Isn't there a cab sim on the American Sound too?
I had the AS a long time ago and there was a bit of a journey for me to get where I am. From the AS I used the Bassman sim in various Zoom pedals to the FET-F2B to a Particle Accelerator small tube to the original version of the UA to a HW version with the tone stack bypass. They are certainly not identical but the solution is getting closer to my preferred sound of the 67 Bassman I have had since the 70's that is my all time favorite amp. I have the prototype of the BassDude that is sheer perfection IMHO and the reason @Sushi Box FX did a limited run and offers it in Conspiracy 2 Commit.

I should maybe add that the Joyo Oxford Sound is somewhat brighter than the rest of them, with a good deal more low end loss, so I use mine in my amp-less setup more as sort of the guitar rig in a bi-amping rig, blended with parallel "clean" signal at an about equal ratio, placed after my other drives, but before my reverb and delay, however then this mixed signal going into my main preamp pedal that both emulates a bass amp and got an IR cab sim engaged.

Just something really tight and snappy about the drive in the Oxford Sound, that I just find perfect, whereas the American Sound has a somewhat looser and softer/warmer feel.

I play though mine a lot. The basement rig has the Am Sound. My office rig has the TC spark 4 knob.

I use the voice knob when I switch instruments. My P with a Fender P/U, the voice is at 2 o'clock. My P with a bit hotter fleaBay pickup gets the voice knob at 10 o'clock. That takes a bit of the 'bite' out of the cheapo pickup.
