Frankly, I'm not a great lover of various pedals that I've tried over the years,
including compressors, even the high priced, highly regarded ones.
My main concern was that they didn't actually make my bass sound better
& going direct to the amp sounded better. So stopped using them.
I recently came across a YouTube video & IMO it sounded really good & thought I would
try it, why the hell not.
This little box of tricks is not just your ordinary compressor, it has features that I think
are important.
The most interesting is the ability to run a 12V power supply & the voltage is internally
doubled to 24V, which improves headroom, providing all the benefits that offers.
The EQZ facility is also useful in that it covers a wide range easily. When the knob is
at 12o'clock there is no effect, turn clockwise to boost the higher frequencies &
reduce the lower frequencies at the same time, the shift switch changes the tilt center
at 900Hz & 250Hz. Turn counter clockwise & the lows are boosted & highs attenuated.
Very handy. Also there is a clean buffered signal blend.
The Vol control boosts the output to the amp & the level of dynamics, more than most
users would need.
The circuitry is based on the much regarded Diamond BCP-1, which I never got to try.
The effect on the sound is immediately noticeable, more dynamic & punchy, something
I've always wanted. I love it.
