Double Bass NS bass stand alternatives?

Has anyone found an alternative to the NS brand stands?

The main connector on my NS WAV stand has given up the ghost...again. The section that mounts to the actual stand (right) had cracked previously but the repair didn't take. A new replacement NS stand is $120 which is ridiculous for a glorified cymbal stand, so that's not happening. The upgraded NS stand is a lot nicer but not $220 nice.

I took the bass mount (left) to the local GC drum section but couldn't find any cymbal stands with a similar lip/recessed tooth section. Has anyone has better luck?

It turned out that NS had a replacement part lying around and was awesome enough to send one my way! :hyper:

To answer the original question, a boom stand would be most likely to have a similar, lip/recessed tooth section. I don't know if a perfect match exists.

The problem was getting the teeth in the same neighbor hood. Boom joints tend to be deeper than the ones atop straight cymbal stands but I never got around to trying to find a match.

I wish I had pictures but I didn`t take any before I sold mine, but I rigged up a bit of copper pipe I had lying around the house with a few joints to make a Y, then padded it all so the neck could sit in it without being scratched. In the other end, the stem of he Y, if you will, I put a bit of that putty that hardens when exposed to air and a stack of nuts that fit over the bolt on the tripod. A quick search through a hardware store might yield a long single nut but I had a bunch lying around. Spin that baby on tight and then put the endpin in a rubber-bottomed cup with one of the tripod stands. I used an old welcome mat, doubled over and glued with holes gauged out for the leg and the endpin. Worked a charm!
