Double Bass NS CR4 vs WAV4?

I'm considering getting an EUB for ease of transport to some of my gigs. A few years ago I had a CR5M that I sold here, but I'm seriously considering a CR4 due to the trouble of hauling my UB around to all my gigs.

I know there are several variables to consider but I'm wondering if there is a significant sound difference between the CR4 and WAV4? I'm aware that won't get the same sound as either of my UB's and there's a tradeoff...but just looking for a little advice.

Thanks,

Rick

I guess the biggest comparison would be between an MIM Fender Precision and an American Active Deluxe Precision. They'll both sound like P Basses, but one has a lot more options to sculpt the sound. Obviously the CR-4M, with the magnetic pickups, active EQ and blend controls, is going to give you a lot more tonal flexibility and nuance over the WAV4. Plus, the CR has (I'm told) a better stand, better tuners, etc..

But, do YOU specifically need/want the extras? If your reason is just to have an EUB to make it easier for some travel gigs, I'd probably just get the WAV4 and your favorite set of URB strings and call it good. If you want more tonal options onboard, you may want to invest in the CR.

It also depends on whether you already have a proper preamp. If you have one with high impedance and tone sculpting EQ, you don't necessarily need the active preamp of CR model.

However, I would still opt for NXTa instead of WAV. I've visited the factory in Czech Republic where all the models are being manufactured (except for WAV) and considered it very professional. I would prefer to buy a bass which was made by the same workers that work on the more expensive models, than to buy a bass which is being made in India by workers who do not have an experience with the premium models.

Plus the NXTa has the active circuit so you don't need to worry about your (pre)amp's impedance...
