Double Bass NS Design NXT Megathread

I have a ton of years of experience both with "regular" uprights and with five-string electrics, and I got the NXT5 with no regrets so far. It's a little tighter to bow but nothing crazy, and the added benefit of bowing those low notes makes up for it.

I concur. I play in a community string orchestra. Many baroque pieces we play afford me occasions to bow a low D or C and it's very satisfying!

Does anyone else have little stress cracks on their fingerboard? ImageUploadedByTalkBass1368663171.969503.jpg

I'm pretty sure the neck is straight, from what I can tell. The cracks seem to be wear the neck has discoloration. Could be cosmetic but don't know. It plays fine, but this is my first EUB. I've heard maybe fine sandpaper will work but...........ugh!

I got an NXT in a few weeks ago. . Since it's arrival, I put on Hipshot Ultralite tuners (NOT drop in....took a little sanding inside the holes), Helicore Orchestral strings, and the NS End Pin and K&M EUB stand from Gollihur. This bass is really a keeper now.

I have a stupid question for the group. I just got my new NS NXT last week (Christmas in May...yeah!) When I opened up the gig bag, I found a long, narrow cordura pouch (about 2 feet long, maybe 4" in diameter) velcroed to the inside of the case, parallel to the neck. It's too short for a bow, and besides, the bow case and tripod bag are both on the outside of the bag. Does anybody have a clue what this extra case might be for?

I never noticed the "long, narrow cordura pouch (about 2 feet long, maybe 4" in diameter) velcroed to the inside of the case, parallel to the neck."...but I have been wondering where to best put my instrument cable & that might be where I put it! As for my NXT "responding just like my old double bass"...mine- no...a 21st century rocket ship- yes! Faster than lickety split.

Haha fair enough. Gone is the need to thumb position for high notes! I guess I should be more precise. The bowing feel is almost the same, there are no "passes" when it comes to precision and good positioning. A good bow stroke produces a deep and satisfying vibration and note. Poor left hand positioning produces poor results ;-)

I played a dance gig a few Saturdays ago with a singer, drums and piano. We went solid from 10-11:30. I was tired but nothing like if I had had to play my old DB! The NXT is much easier to play, therefore the quality of my performance is that much better.

Man, it's a good thing the NXT5 plays and sounds so good, because I'm going to end up having to drop a lot of money on a new case, new stand, tuners, and real strings.

I managed to replace enough hardware on the stock stand to get the thing to not wiggle around, but it's kind of rigged together and requires a wrench to tighten.
