Double Bass NS Design NXT Megathread

The windings on the height adjustment knob of my tripod stand have practically vanished, making the stand unusable. To be honest not only did I think this was a thing of the past (I bought my NXT new less than a year ago), but I'm also really miffed because these instruments are not exactly cheap.

I've now bought a bolt from a hardware store and use a spanner for fixing it. At least that will last - it has to, because the windings are properly cut into the metal, not added as a soft layer of mystery material as on the knob that came with the stand.

Call NS. They have very good service. If it’s a part that can be replaced, I would imagine that they have them. There are lots of those stands that have lasted many years so I’m sure yours is an aberration.

I contacted NS with the same problem, and they had a new bolt headed my way the next day. After that happened, I had some Backstage Points built up at Musicians Friend, so I used that credit and ordered the upgraded stand that comes with the CR upright, which is essentially a beefy cymbal stand modified with a NS upright mount. Absolutely worth the purchase... I wish the NXTs would just come with that stand, it would be worth the extra $ with the initial purchase IMO. I'm 100% happy I got it... It's much more gig sturdy, don't need a bolt stripping in the middle of a gig!

I’ve been playing NSD basses since they first came on the scene and have always used the heavy duty tripod stands. Even when I was borrowing an NXT or WAV from a distributor I would always get the loaner with the heavy duty stand.

I recently took delivery of a new, white WAV4. What a great bass! Since I already had a few heavy duty stands, I received this one with the stock, light weight stand. While this stand is very different from the heavy duty stand (it angles differently and has legs where the heavy duty stand doesn’t) it has one big plus: it’s very light! With the heavy duty stand packed, I need a luggage cart to transport my bass. There’s no way I could carry the heavy duty stand around in an airport or run for a bus or train. Plus, it rips the gig bags to shreds. Not the light tripod. Very pleasant to carry in the gig bag. So, for situations when doof to door transport isn’t provided I’ll be using the light weight stand as much as I can.

I need to give another shout-out to Mark Gollihur at Gollihur Music. I ordered a set of used clearance strings from his website for my NXTa and had them delivered today. When I opened the package, there was a new pack of strings in there with a handwritten note apologizing for not being able to find the used set I ordered. Any other dealer would have emailed me to say that the website inventory was a mistake and to ask me if I wanted to order something else instead. I haven't made many purchases with him, but every single one has been a pleasure. Thanks, Mark!

Yes..ok... but the NS doesn't seem to have a body like an upright bass to meet you at your hip.
A body support is available as well from NS, and of course you have to pay extra for it as well as for the endpin.

If you have the chance to try any NS EUB (even those with a tripod) check first if the feeling of the fingerboard and bridge height fits and ask how much adjustable the action is. If that part does not fit you you might not be luckier with an endpin, body support and artificial neck heel (which also costs extra, but other NS players have their own solution for the artificial neck heel).

Yesterday, my NSD NXTa sounded incredible !
It was an Irish Pub gig in which I usually plug it into a Fishman preamp, and then directly into the house system. Anyway, Yesterday I plugged into a Phil Jones amp and a MarkBass 2x10... The result was incredible ! Can't wait to try it live with my old Kay.
What is your sound chain to get the best sound out of your NSD ??

Radial Bassbone OD, channel A with PZD (10M impedance) enabled. That's all it needed.

But it does sound pretty damn cool through an emulated KT66 power stage and Ampeg 8x10 stack, too.
