Double Bass NS Design NXT Megathread

I just changed to a new set of strings and there is a little ring/buzz on th G-string when I press the string down and play but not on the open G. I've increased the string height by 1mm and loosened the truss rod which seems to help a little. My question is, how much is too much relief? From what I've read, there should be just enough space to slide a credit card between the Ab and high G when you press down in the middle? Or should the gap be bigger? Also, do you need to loosen the strings when adjusting the truss rod? I'm going by 1/4 turns for this. Thanks

Hi! Does anyone know if the bass/omni bass tripod stand is interchangeable with the cello tripod stand? So that if I get an NS NXTa cello, I could use my Omni bass CR stand with it?
It looks like it's the same connection. This is the tripod I bought for my OmniBass NXTa5.

And the cello stand is here, might be a little smaller tripod but the connection looks the same.

You can call NS on Monday to confirm, they're really responsive IME calling them.

Yes, I can confirm that they use the same connection and are interchangeable.

Any experience with Corelli strings on an NS Design anyone ?
I gotta try something lighter than the D’Addario traditional (Orchestra medium)
Thanks
Except the F gauge the Corelli are a bit heavy on the higher strings and rather loose on the lower ones.

Try downtune your current strings until you are happy with the tension. Halftone down leads to light strings, whole tone down to downtuned solo strings (from the same string family).

Otherwise download my excel file and formulas.html file from my Dropbox (link in signature or one of the string stickies). Get used to work with formulas.html, the calculation is done by the computer, the formulas are only there for reference.

Very instructive, thanks. Would you know the tension of the GHS Crossover?

Personally I love the Traditionals. I've tried them with a low B and high C and both feel and sound great. Now I'm using my NXT with the low B and the MK Classic with a high C (with Evah Pirazzis, so both the bass and the strings are a completely different beast).

I've also tried the GHS. They felt absolutely horrible, very rough on my fingers, and I got the impression they made my NXT sound closer to a bass guitar than even the NS Design Modern. So I went back to the Traditionals within one day.

Just my two cents, of course all of this is quite subjective.

No. Never had them and they even might be difficult to get in Europe.

In the Excel file are only strings with tension data that manufacturers publish themselves.

I have made a few measurements with my own strings, but I cannot buy all strings. (I stopped buying strings for a while and only buy them if absolutely necessary and available, which my prototype strings that I currently play are not.)

I give hints and data for some strings if needed and available, but GHS strings are not in my drawer (except some Innovation strings that are now manufactured by GHS).

If people send me strings for measurement I will measure the tension and publish the data, but that does not happen and mostly makes sense inside of Germany or Europe.
I made that once for a set of Lycon strings that stopped by me before they went to the other side of the planet. Tension data is here on TalkBass.com.

So, I'm using my WAV only for Arco, and the Ns Traditional strings are doing an admirable job, but as a relapsed string addict I'm always looking for other strings to try out.

What strings are the arco heavy players using? Any experience with belcantos on the NS?

Do arco heavy players bow a NS EUB?

I do. My main gigging situation with the NS is musical theatre pits (where real estate in the pit is at a premium), so I bow it quite a bit. I use either a French Bow or one of FingerBows from Expanding Hands Music.
