Double Bass NS position markers

Hi Folks,

I intend to put some tiny inlay markers on my upright bass and from memory when I once tried a NS I recall the position dots to be plentiful (an understatement!) and not to my liking but the way the dots were offset on the board instead of the usual centre postion did appear to make some sense as they caught your eye easily instead of having to look for them.
My idea is to only use a couple of side dots coupled with a few on the face offset as with the NS but I would appreciate a refresher on the NS arrangement from any owner to help me decide how to place them (the photos I've seen aren't very clear).

I've owned a lot of EUB's and DB's. I started with the NS arrangement but quickly found it to be too many dots and confusing. I recommend an alternate arrangement after experimenting a lot with less face dots - kind of like an NS lite! I can post a picture if you'd like to see what I came up with. Also...depending on how you stand in relation to the bass, you might only need edge dots all the way up and a few 2nd octave face dots.

Thanks a bunch, a picture would be great. I aim to keep it minimal yet helpful for mainly the first octave position. That's the thing that struck me about the NS, the way the dots were located near to the upper registers of the 1st and 2nd strings.

My NS CR5M (which I have owned a grand total of 2 hrs ) has markers at the half-step for two octaves. I do think it is cool how they shift from the bass side to treble side as it goes up the neck.

Overall though, I think I like the way others like Eminence do it, with marks at the 1,3,5,7 and octave stops.
