I’ve been trying out some new strings for my Mike Lull M5V. Because it’s 35” scale, has a big headstock and the B string is through-body, I’ve focused on extra-long scale strings. Of all the ones I’ve tried, I’ve usually stuck with D’Addario EXL170s with a .125 on the bottom (Admittedly, I don’t know much about strings. I just know what feels good when I play).
Just recently, I stumbled across S.I.T. Foundations in XL nickel. They feel really good under my fingers, like a good nickel string should with nice tension (zero-flop… one bite everybody knows the rules). Tone wise, they have a nice snap… almost bright like steels.
One odd thing was the packaging. Instead of packaging them in order of size, the 5-string pack comes in 3 different sealed packets. One with strings 1 & 3, one with strings 2 & 4. And one with the B string. I wasn’t paying attention and assumed they were in order. Thankfully, I discovered this confusing packaging before I cut the strings. That could have been a costly mistake.
Other than that, my initial impressions of these strings are very positive. They kind of remind me of the feel of EXL170s or maybe NYXLs, so that’s a good thing. I guess time will tell. For now, they sound great on my Lull.
I also bought a set for my Sadowsky 5-21, but it sure is hard to take off the Sadowsky Black Labels. They’re such great strings.
Anyone here ever try the Foundations? Thoughts?

I’ve never used them before, and may try them out of my other basses as well to see how they work out.
) Definitely a lower tension string but not quite as floppy as a roundcore like the Sunbeams and more even mids compared to the crunchy mids of the Super Brights.
