NTMBD - Fender '97 MIA Jazz Deluxe V

New to me bass day!

Thanks to TB member John_Sketch.

Killer bass! I've gone off and on to 5'ers over the years, and just never "felt it" with any of them. However, I always had in the back of my head the memory of playing a '97 MIAJDV at the place where I taught..... really the first and only 5 string that I felt just right on. I never bought it though....... I had a sore spot due to a '92 MIAJD four string from several years earlier. But this thing is totally different, sounds incredible, and plays wonderfully. Perfect string spacing for me.

BTW.... I love the grain of the ash, and the green hues in the blue. Awesome!

I had same bass,same colour but 4 string back then in 97 and it was pain in the ass.
Fret work was bad ,neck was wraped so I swore to my self I will never buy Fender again.
I think I had got bass from 1% off basses wich were bad and 99% were OK.
So I hope your bass is in 99% and I wish you good luck with it.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Seriously, the place where I worked was constantly turning over their Fender gear..... I saw and played a lot of Fenders basses going through there. These always impressed me back then.

You know, I had pretty much all but forgotten these basses...... but I stumbled back over that vid after having not seen it in a while. That tone, even though it's not the best recording, is what got me to thinking about one of these again.

Definitely J bass..... but a bunch more low mid thump. Great for fingerstyle funk!

Congrats! These are great basses. In my experience they do require a lot of tweaking. The preamp is great in these basses, sound is awesome. The necks are a bit finicky and really susceptible to weather and humidity changes seemingly more so than most other jazz basses. I worked at a bass specialty shop in the late 90's and had a couple of customers that had these (4's and 5's) and they brought them in a lot for set up and neck tweaks, but man do they play well when set up.

Enjoy the bass. It sounds like a it is nice one.

The whole vid is sick, and the last minute is completly killer!

Playin' around and getting it setup this morning. Man, it plays so nice. Tone is wicked as well. However, my little SWR workingman 12 combo doesn't like B strings a whole lot (poor little fella). I'll drag out my GK 700rbII and Neo112 once everyone is up.

LOL.... I got around to going through the GK later in the afternoon. Man, it sounds so good! Seriously good player, and it's so flippin' punchy!

When I gig, I usually take a flat strung P type, and either a round strung J or G&L L2K. I have a love/hate thing going on with the L2K, and I may just hate it enough next time around to get rid of it (if only the neck felt as good as my '87 SB1). The AmDlx could easily replace L2K.
