NUBD ...

New Used ... just got here ... started my cleanup/setup ... no pics yet ...

but ... i'm sure many of you have seen the Regenerate 51 P/J ... i really loved the neck ... the same model neck as my other Warmoth ... but even better wood/pieces parts ..!! the only thing i'm not sure of is rather it will be made passive versus the current pre ... if i go passive , i would want to install stacked or split humbuckers ... ???? dunno yet ... i'll get some strings on it later this evening , and hopefully take a fresh pic ...

the work has begun ... found a few high spots on some frets ... if you think stainless frets aren't that much harder than the normal nickle frets ... try grinding on them ... !!

next a preamp swap ... remove the Ag 2 band , install Sadowsky with VTC ... i do like having the passive tone control available ... the pickups are both overwound and pretty hot ... and single coils ( for now ? )

it will get setup with a new set of DR pure blues i have that i only had on for a couple days ... my old fav GHS pressure wounds are getting pretty old ... and the only low B they have in that line is a .128 , non-taper ...
the DR set has a .120 low B ... i might try a set of Smith Compressor string next ... i think their low B is a .125 tapered .. ?! there aren't many other pressure wound , roller wound sets out there ...

now i gotta figure out the wiring scheme for the Sad pre ... seems that most wires are hooked up ... just gotta get power , pickups , grounds sorted out ... i usually fiddle around with passive stuff ... !!

frets all polished up ... restrung ... starting to adjust bridge saddle heights / action ... feels much better ..
time to start soldering up the mystery wires tonight ... waiting for a couple parts to show up ... then i can get things all back together and see how i like the new/old used pre ... Sadowsky w/ passive tone ... and then finish the setup ... then figure out what to tear apart next ..!!

after fiddling with to many wires ... and no definitive wiring diagram that matches up ... i'm just going my favorite way ... Passive ... ( batteries are for flashlights ) ... regular jazz bass wiring scheme ... V/V/T

if the single coils work out for me ... cool ... if not , humbuckers will be installed ... getting action dialed in and neck now feels pretty good ...

now it's time to sell the left over preamps ( Ag OP2 , Sadowsky that looks like a metro take-out ? ) and parts

probably finish soldering tonight ... i really hate soldering ..!!

then tomorrow , new orange caps for the other Warmoth ... it has Bart humbuckers , changing caps from .47 to .1uf ... why , read on Sadowsky's site ... to use .47 for singles , .1 for humbuckers ... really liked my previous Sadowsky ... if that's what Roger thinks , i'll give it a try ...

now even trying to wire Passive , this is being a pain in the ass .. !?

wired normal J bass wiring ... 2 pups , 2 vol , 1 tone ... the tone knob keeps working like a master volume instead of a tone knob ... ????? wired like most diagrams ... but being temper-mental .. !

tone knob is working correctly ... but things buzz when i touch any metal ... of course my test meter 9 volt lead broke off ... gotta fix that , ... and ordered a couple alligator clip test leads ... which should make life a bit easier to find the grounding issue ... !! easier then soldering and un-soldering crap ... i hate to solder .!!

and of course i don't have 3 matching knobs for these pots ... whatever ... !!! time to take a step back for a couple days before i break something ... !! it's just to damn hot/wet down here in Tampa to hang out in the garage with 2 hot turbo charged vehicles ... !! they do make some extra heat

OK ... passive and playable ... now i noticed something else ... i bought this hoping it had the exact same neck as my other Warmoth Deluxe 5ver ... but it seemed a tiny bit harder to play than the other ...

and now i figured out why ... it is the Wider version of this neck ... !! crap ... 1 7/8 versus 1 3/4 ... damn

i hope i can adapt or get it setup to feel more like my other neck ... as it is really a great neck ... Wenge , massacar ebony , stainless steel frets ... had thoughts of installing a " just a nut iii " to make adjusting the nut easier ... ?? or getting another neck ... pricing out one exactly like this one is around $440 ... so i'd probably get one with less features .. ! ): then sell this neck ... ?

the comfy neck is strung E-C with Ti flats ... which are soft/flexible ...

the newer one is B-G , with light gauge GHS Pressurewounds ... i know that'll make a difference in how it feels for sure ... maybe even lighter strings ... ???

or swap strings from one to the other ... but i like the high C on the 24 fret neck ... !! crap , crap , crap ..

i thought that was New Used Bass Day ... ? ha

trying to search for some softer flexible strings that might make up for the wider feel .. ??

contemplating a different color pickguard .. if i can figure out who might make one .. ?? or who might Custom make one .. ??

ordered a set of extra light DR Sunbeams 40-60-75-95-120

since i need to install some more or fresh foam under the bridge pup ... and some new screws ... might as well try some new slightly lighter strings ... step 1 ...

i would think Step 2 would be a Just-a-nut-III ... i wonder if installing the narrower nut might give me a tighter feel ..?? one is 45 , one is 47 ... the nut width on the neck in question is 48mm ...

the other neck that feels best is 44mm - nut

any thoughts are always appreciated ..!???

decided to go naked ... no pickguard for now ... filled the holes with some nail hole filler in the appropriate color ... and it wearing Ti flats now ... takes some of the edge of the over-wound single coils .. !!??

still contemplating humbuckers for it ... ?? Nordy makes them , ... both would be split coils ... a 51P5s and a Big Split ...

waiting for a nice and cloudy day for a few outside pics ... !?
