Nut Replacement for Sting Ray 4

Hey All--

I have a new SR 4 (fretted) with the new "compensated nut." A guess a trade off for intoenation is very high action at the nut.

I'd like to replace it (not just have it filed down). It feels really creepy and I dislike the sound.

Any suggestions? I was thinking a Fender American Vintage Series P Bass Nut.

It probably just needs the slots filed down to give you the correct clearance at the first fret.
AFAIK the distance from the nut to the first fret is reduced with these and then they are notched back, so a standard replacement may give really bad results

High action shouldn't have to be a side effect. What affects the intonation at the nut is where the crown point is in the slot. So if you can bring it down without moving those crown points, you should be fine.

I've never seen one of these nuts...

What are crown points? If I file the nut down, do the sides of the nut where the string sits need to stay the same, or is it ok as a by product that they get filed away also?
