New Vintage Bass Day lol.

Bass rescue. Bass was given to me - volume pot was seized, no output whatsoever. Once tuned up relief was about 2mm and action about 15mm. Truss rod mostly works - got relief to about .25 but the bridge wont let me get the action below 5mm...
Took the pick guard off. Got the pot working resoldered the output jack and wow this thing sounds really sweet. I now wish whoever swapped out the pup and routed out the body didn't do it.

If it's a bolt on you could shim the neck to allow more adjustment for the bridge to fix the action.

Its a set neck. I could replace the bridge but that removes even more of its vintageness...

I may do that since the pups kinda killed it. We will see. For now just kinda noodling around with it. Has a 35" scale so thats a little different also.

It is very different looking. Maton still makes guitars but not this model since 64.

That's one you don't see every day! Refreshingly different.
Maton is an Australian company, and seemed to do things their own way. Maybe our Aussie compadres can help you source an original pickup and pickguard?

Wow and Yay!!! If you get a clear sheet of plexiglass or acrylic and pearl nail polish you can cut a new guard. If you swirl the nail polish on the underside it will retain the perfectly shiny top and have the same design as the bridge cover. Thanks for introducing us to a truly unique bass.

Absolutely beautiful bass Sir.That tone selector switch is off the hook!

Maybe make a new pickguard routed for an original pup if available. Or perhaps something a little more retro and period correct looking. TV Jones maybe?

Kool! And different. That's an interesting tone selector!
You may need to route & recess the bridge.

Hmmm, never seen a vacuum formed plastic bridge cover before. It seems to be a minor miracle that the joystick handle on the selector hasn’t broken off by now. You might have to recess the bridge or file the saddle slots down to get lower action. Maybe exposed core strings as well.
