And 'Ibis' is a great model name, nicely refected in that great headstock shape...i first came across the Maton brand in tbe 80s through Aussie bassist Clive Harrison. A very well respected maker.
I haven't received any replies from guitar nerd - i havent phoned him but did post on both hos facebook walls and his blog to see if he'd be willing to mail parts to me. Failing that i did find some pearl puckguard material and some nordstrand pups that look very similar (prob sound better). Still at a crossroads for the bridge. It uses threaded saddles like the old fenders but without adjustment screws. I may find some smaller diameter bolts and cut them to size.
wild looking bass -Definately has the "cool factor". It would be cool to play a song or two at a gig on it - if it plays well enough
It actually plays really well and sounds great - the action is a bit high and the "thumb rest" actually gets in the way but it sounds really smooth for lack of a better term and I can play most stuff playing closer to the bridge. The action is my main complaint playability wise - lowest I can get it is around 5mm. That is with relief set correctly. Any flatter and I get buzz on the upper frets. Definitely worth putting some work into. It's officially whenever I'm bored work project lol.
