NYC Gear Shopping...

I don't want to come off like I'm bashing Bass Specialties...but, like you, I expected to see a plethora of boutique gear...and MOST of their inventory was SWR stuff...I think he had one Genz Benz Shuttle 3 with a 2x10...no Aguilar, EBS, etc.

He had some real nice basses...a nice Nordy VJ5 and a nice F Bass...and a larger string selection than any other store I've been in...but IME, it wasn't worth the 2+ hour one way trip

Well, for your trip to NYC I think you should put both Rudy's on 48th street and Ludlow Guitars at the top of your list. Their Aguilar stock alone puts them over in the amp department. And Rudy's Bergantino stock is considerable, too.

You want Hartke? go to Sam Ash...seems like 60% of the floor was Hartke.

Rudy's has thinned out a bit but they did have a nice selection of Bergantino (10's and 12's) and mesa plus a variety of micro amps.

Ludlow usually has a few aggie cabs on hand plus they have a room where you can try them out for a little while at volume.

It's part of Sam Ash. Samson, the parent company of Sam Ash, also bought Hartke. They've seen some value in keeping Larry Hartke in the fold. And to that end he's great. I see him around midtown all the time, and he's routinely helping out a number of players or organizing clinics. But this had the added effect of featuring Hartke amps as the premiere bass amp in their showroom.

I went to Ludlow the other day. They had a few Aggie DB cabs...a pair of DB112's in tweed and either a DB212 or 410...I didn't take a close look.

They also had the TH500 head, a vintage black line SVT, and an Ashdown combo.
