Nylon coated FLAT wound....

There's a fair deal to unpack there:
- nylon, not vinyl
(no vinyl-covered strings that I'm aware of)
- wrapped, not coated
(hence their most common name, black nylon tapewounds)
- Rotosound Tru Bass 88 are not flatwounds but roundwounds under the nylon tape
(just like the near-totality of nylon tapewound strings)
- GHS 3060 black nylon tapewounds are the only tapewound string that are a metal flatwound underneath the nylon
(that I or others here know of, at least).
Roto Tru Bass 88's are what's commonly termed "tapewound".
All "tapewounds" are flatwound in the sense the outer wrap is a flat ribbon as opposed to a round wire. The only difference between "tapewound" and "flatwound" is the outer wrap is nylon vs. metal.

Folks, I have played almost every nylon wound strings out there. ALL nylon wrapped strings are round wounds underneath the nylon wrap.
...except for the GHS Tapewounds, as @HaphAsSard pointed out above, which are flatwound under the tape for B-E-A-D, with roundwound only for the G.
GHS is clear on that fact on their website.
GHS lists this string as being the third most "mellow" string in their line-up-
I don't understand why this string which has this nylon coating over a FLAT core would be more bright than their

This is like asking what kind of wood the popsicle stick is made out of.
Popsicle stick doesn't affect the taste of the popsicle. What's under the tape of a tapewound string DOES affect both tone and feel.

No it really doesn’t. Hence the analogy. Have you ever taken one apart? It’s like a guitar string. Besides, LaBella makes the best tapes out there bar none and like 99% of all tapes, they are tiny rounds under the thick outer layer

La Bella White Nylon, Gold White Nylon and Copper White Nylon... They all sound different because of the material used for the string under the clear nylon cover.

re: the question, i reckon using steel vs. using nickel underneath the wrap or coating could account for the difference.
still, i'm trying to understand the nomenclature used here. are we talking about coated stirngs, like elixirs? or are we talking about tapewound strings?
Did not know that there were two "types" of strings with a plastic based outer layer on them- you say there are coated AND wrapped?
