NYXL - short life?

Picked up a set of NYXL's to give them a try and less than a week later the E and A are dead and the D and G are trending. Not sure if they're hex core or round core, but I crimped before cutting. Anyways, just wrote them off and went back to DR's. Any similar experiences or was it a fluke?

Not sure about the NY’s, but I’ve had great luck with the light gauge XL’s. Would keep a set on for a few months with regular to heavy use, and I’m someone who tends to prefer a brighter/livelier sounding string.

I just slapped a set of Sunbeams on one of my P's and wondered why I ever strayed from them. Fantastic strings.

I use NYXLs for regular guitar, seem to last forever. Mostly DRs on bass, still experimenting with types and gauges. Tried a few NYXLs on bass.

For me, the bass NYXLs did seem to break in over a short time, they felt looser than the DRs, and they seemed to need about a gauge thicker. I thought the NYXLs were comparatively hollow or mid scooped at first, then they improved. I believe you probably experienced “normal”, doesn’t sound like a fluke

Lol I had a set I just stuck on a Ray last week so I’ll find out soon. They’re not as sparkly as the DR Hi Beams they replaced. I bought the NYXL to try and kinda forget to install them!
I have a set on a guitar right now, Jazzmaster, and I like the feel but they seem less compliant than the Stringjoy Sigs I usually use. But they feel really nice.
Maybe that’s the nature of the coating? I don’t know.
Anyway I’ll sub and chime in after a week or so with the bass.

NYXL's are not coated. As I understand it, their special feature has to do with the core material and the core-to-wrap ratio; otherwise, they're nickel-plated steel roundwound on a hex core like the regular XL Nickel.
